Is buying an email list a good idea? (Spoiler: usually not)

The pitch is tempting: $200 for 10,000 emails. The reality: 60-80% are stale, 30-40% are catch-all, your sender domain gets burned. There are 2 scenarios where it works and 1 better alternative.

When buying a list "works"

When the vendor verifies in the last 30 days AND you upload to a verifier on your end anyway AND the list is opt-in for legitimate-interest use cases. Rare.

When it's a disaster

Old scraped data resold N times. Catch-all domains hide bounces until your sender reputation is wrecked. GDPR exposure for personal data without lawful basis.

The better alternative: scrape + verify per-campaign

Scrape fresh for each campaign. Verify before send. ~$10-30 for a 500-lead list with Kavex. Always fresh, always verified, fully under your control.
