Kavex vs Apify

Someone has to
maintain it.

Apify is a marketplace of scrapers written by other people. Kavex is forty-five scrapers we wrote and keep working, so the maintenance is ours and not yours. Almost everything in the table below follows from that one difference.

How we compare

There is not a single invented Apify number on this page. We compare structure, which anyone can check. Where we cannot verify something from the outside, the cell says so and sends you to their pricing page.

Structure, not adjectives.

Seven things that decide which of the two fits the way you work. Read the right column with their pricing page open.

Where the rows come from
KAVEX

Forty-five scrapers open the live page the second you press Run. Nothing is served from an old copy, because there is no stored copy.

APIFY

A marketplace of actors written by other people. Freshness and quality are decided by whoever wrote the one you picked. Check that actor page before you rely on it.

What you pay for
KAVEX

Delivered results. A Google Maps lead is 2 credits, so $2 per thousand, and 1 credit is $0.001. What a run did not find comes straight back to your balance.

APIFY

Per result, plus the compute and the proxy the actor burns while it runs, so the bill has two moving parts. Check their current plan and the actor for both.

How many sources
KAVEX

Forty-five, and they are different in kind: Google Maps places, LinkedIn people, Trustpilot reviews, Booking properties, Indeed jobs, Amazon products, Reddit threads.

APIFY

A far larger catalogue than ours, including long-tail sources we will never build. What varies between them is who maintains each one.

What happens to credits
KAVEX

They never expire. Top up in March, use the rest in December, nobody resets anything at midnight.

APIFY

Platform credits are handed out per plan and per month. Check their current plan for what happens to the ones you did not use.

Getting the data out
KAVEX

CSV with no row cap, every column the run produced. The same rows over the API, on the same credits.

APIFY

Export comes out of the dataset the actor wrote, in the shape it chose. Check the actor docs for columns and limits.

A team of five
KAVEX

One pot of credits, five people, one invoice. Nobody is charged for the month they did not run anything.

APIFY

Seats and plan limits apply. Check their current plan for what five people cost together.

APIFY

There is a free tier of platform credits. Check their current plan page for the size of it.

The other side

When to take Apify.

Three cases where we are the wrong tool. If one of them is you, buy theirs.

01

You scrape long-tail sources every week.

Regional marketplaces, government registers, a platform nobody has heard of yet. Their marketplace has those and we never will.

02

You want to run your own code.

You can write an actor and run it on their infrastructure. Kavex has no equivalent and is not planning one.

03

You do not mind doing the QA.

If you are happy to test an actor, read its issue list and swap it out when it breaks, the marketplace pays you back in breadth.

Pricing

No seats. Just a balance.

Top up whatever you want, whenever you want. A bigger top-up buys more credits for the same dollar, and every scraper has one published rate underneath.
